A Guide to Data and Technology in Agriculture

This will provide resources for research on current efforts to address data and technology in agriculture. Each page will provide research journals, books, websites, datasets, and other resources specific to these topics.

Big Data in Agriculture

Accessible, timely, and reliable data can drive better policy and decision making. Open data and knowledge, and associated technologies can make a critical contribution to achieving food and nutrition security, but their use will require good governance and strong commitment from the international community.

The CGIAR Big Data Platform aims to accelerate and enhance the impact of international agricultural research. The Big Data Platform complies with open access and open data principles to unlock important research and datasets for use by researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders. The Platform works to build capacity in agriculture through communities of practice that will encourage interaction and engage a range of actors to produce new ideas to solve development problems.

Science, Technology, and Innovation

Evidence shows that sound and sustained investment in agricultural science and technology is key to increasing agricultural productivity, reducing poverty, and fostering economywide growth. Yet many developing countries do not include science and technology in their national development plans. To promote investment in agricultural research, IFPRI collects the latest data on national investments in these areas. IFPRI also works on developing scientific knowledge and technology products that will improve agriculture and agricultural policies. This includes the development of agricultural biotechnology with attention to biosafety issues as well as policies on genetic resources to promote agricultural diversity.
